Carova is the northernmost Outer Banks community, and is only accessible by the unpaved beach. Although we call Carova a "town", a better description is that it is a few neighborhoods North of NC 12 in Corolla, accessible only by 4x4 vehicles.
There are 6 light houses from North to South - Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse, Bodie Island Lighthouse, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Ocracoke Lighthouse and Cape Lookout National Seashore, the southernmost portion of the OBX, named Cape Lookout Lighthouse.

For more than 500 years, the most enduring – and endearing – residents of the Outer Banks, the wild Colonial Spanish Mustangs, have called this sliver of land between sound and sea home.
They’re feral horses descended from a herd brought here by explorers as early as the 1520s, and they're recognized as the state horse of North Carolina.

They’re feral horses descended from a herd brought here by explorers as early as the 1520s, and they're recognized as the state horse of North Carolina. How they got here is a bit of a mystery. It’s said that some swam ashore from shipwrecks while others were cast-offs of failed settlements, left to flourish on these untouched barrier islands for hundreds of years.
Please take a moment to read the Wild Horse Ordinance. This law has been passed to protect the Wild Horses of Corolla and prohibits the feeding, approaching, or coming within 50 feet of any wild horse. Maximum fines of up to $500 can and will be imposed upon violators.

The owner Chase has called the OBX home for several decades. He is a Carova volunteer firefighter and currently Hosts 2 vacation rental properties to suit every need and budget.
If you stay at one of the properties, you will most likely meet or see Zeus, his partner in crime.
